Cape Town - EFF spokesman Fana Mokoena’s pictures, posted after a visit to the University of Venda, have sparked an outcry on Twitter.

Early on Tuesday, Mokoena tweeted: “Some pics I took yesterday at the University of Venda. Not isolated incidences.”

In a series of tweets he said: “African students at the University of Venda have been left out. They’ve been left in less than sub-standard conditions. Heart breaking.

“You hear of the squalor in which students study at African universities, but to actually see it....

“There is not a single room at the residences of University of Venda that I visited last night that is not infested with cockroaches.”
