Pupils at a school for the blind in Limpopo are stuck with books meant for the sighted instead of Braille books, according to a report on Wednesday.

Packs of textbooks meant for the sighted were still at Siloe School for the Blind after they were delivered from the circuit office on Monday, the Sowetan newspaper reported.

The school, situated at Thokgwaneng village near Lebowakgomo, has 143 pupils and uses Braille books for lessons.

Authorities at the school told the newspaper that they ordered Braille books and discovered that the packs delivered contained conventional books.

Allan Suban, for the department, told Sowetan there were no Braille books available yet.

“Textbooks for the blind are still being adapted by publishers. There are no textbooks for them at the moment.”

He said the delivery of conventional books at Siloe was a mistake. - Sapa
