National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) members are set to march to Polokwane in Limpopo.
National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) members are expected to march through Polokwane in Limpopo on Monday.
“The march will be to exert pressure to the captains of the motor industry to accede to workers' demands for improved conditions of employment and decent wages,” Numsa spokesman Castro Ngobese said.
Workers were expected to meet outside the SABC's offices in Polokwane at 10am and later hand a memorandum of demands to the Retail Motor Industry and the Fuel Retailers Association.
The union, which represents 70,000 workers employed in garages, workshops and dealerships, is demanding a 15 percent wage increase, a 4.3 percent increase in annual bonuses and the outlawing of labour brokers.
Workers began striking on September 1.
Numsa president Cedric Gina said on Friday the union would not accept the 6.6 percent increase offered by employers, but would continue negotiating on Monday.
About 5000 Numsa workers marched peacefully in Durban on Friday. - Sapa
