Lephalale - Food parcels, blankets and building materials were being delivered to flood affected municipalities in Limpopo on Tuesday, charitable organisation the Gift of the Givers said.

Spokeswoman Emily Thomas said in a statement that R1.2 million worth of aid would be delivered to 500 families in Modimolle, Mookgophong, Mogalakwena, Lephalale, Thabazimbi, and Bela-Bela between Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Generously sponsored by Santam, Vodacom, Unilever, and Ernst & Young, the aid packages consist of food parcels, hygiene packs, blankets, vegetable packs, corrugated sheeting, plastic sheeting, wooden planks, water drums, clothing and shoes.”

Two Modimolle schools would be given new furniture and stationery, as well as packages of fruit and sweets.

The charity was undeterred by continuing rain, even though during a previous visit the Gift of the Givers' vehicle got stuck in mud for four hours before it could be towed out by a tractor.

“Gift of the Givers have been in close communication with the Waterberg Flood Disaster Management to identify areas worst affected by the floods,” Thomas said.
