Johannesburg - Divers on Monday continued with the search for a 14-year-old school girl who is believed to have drowned while trying to cross the Tubatse River in Burgersfort, Limpopo.

“Members of the search and rescue have resumed the search this morning [Monday], the K9 unit is also assisting in the search. The helicopter search has unfortunately been halted due to bad weather,” said police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto.

Two 14-year-old school girls got into trouble on Friday as they tried to cross the river on their way from school. The body of one of the girls was recovered on Saturday.

Heavy rain that has continued to fall in provinces such as Limpopo, Gauteng, North West, and Mpumalanga brought with it flash floods and overflowing rivers and dams over the past few days.

On Friday, the South African Weather Service warned of more rainfall in Limpopo. The province is one of the severely drought-stricken areas in the country.
