Johannesburg - The University of the Witwatersrand on Monday said it mourned seven students who died in a road accident in Limpopo.

The university said the students “were travelling back from a prayer meeting at the Zion Christian Church in Limpopo” when the accident happened on Sunday.

“Details are still sketchy and the university has dispatched a team to gather further information on the ground and to support the family and friends of those that have passed away,” the university said.

Six other students were injured in the road accident, and were in hospital.

The university said the Dean of Students and the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Adam Habib were also en route to Limpopo.

“The university extends its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of those who passed away during this difficult period.”
