Durban – Three men were killed in a collision involving a truck, a car and a pedestrian near Northam in Limpopo Province.

Netcare 911 spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe said the accident happened shortly before 7am about two kilometres outside the mining town of Northam.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the truck driver hit a pedestrian and then collided head-on with a light motor vehicle,” said Mathe.

The pedestrian, the driver of the car, and a passenger in the rear of the car died.

Emergency crews used the jaws of life to extract the deceased driver and his deceased passenger. All three were declared dead at the accident scene.

The three injured, who were also passengers in the car, sustained light to moderate injuries with the truck driver not requiring any medical treatment.

It is not clear what led to the accident, but police are investigating.
