The radiology services at the Mankweng Hospital were not operational on Friday afternoon, the Limpopo health department said.

Two people were hospitalised after an outbreak of rabies in the Waterberg and Capricorn districts of Limpopo, the department of health said on Wednesday.

“There are only two confirmed cases, so it's not widespread,” provincial health spokesman Joe Maila said.

He said the virus was most likely passed on by infected cattle in the Gillemburg area outside Mokopane.

“The infected people are in hospital. They are responding well to treatment.”

Maila said the health and agriculture departments were working together to deal with the disease.

The two departments were going around in the area to ensure residents understood what symptoms to look out for.

Farmers in the area were also advised to immediately vaccinate their cattle against rabies. - Sapa
