Johannesburg - A second attack on a human in the past two years may mean euthanasia for two chimpanzees at the Jane Goodall Chimp Eden sanctuary in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
In 2012, two chimpanzees - Nikki and Amadeus - made news after they attacked American student Andrew Oberle when he climbed through a fence surrounding the chimp enclosure.
On Thursday, Margi Brocklehurst, managing executive of the Jane Goodall Institute, said a worker at the sanctuary was attacked by one of the chimps last month. The employee was injured, but had since been discharged from hospital.
Euthanasia has been urged as the solution.
