Standerton - Eight people died in three separate accidents in Mpumalanga on Saturday, the department of community safety and liaison said.
“The first happened at 4.30am when a Toyato quantum minibus collided head-on with another Toyota sedan on the R23 between Standerton and Secunda and four of the five occupants of the sedan died on the scene,” said spokesman Joseph Mabuza.
In the second accident, three people died when their bakkie crashed into the side of another car that was joining on the R40 between Barberton and Nelspruit.
The third accident, which occurred on the R40 between Nelspruit and Whiteriver, had one fatality.
Mabuza said the 18 people who sustained injuries from the three accidents were taken to hospital.
