Etv journalist Jody Jacobs and cameraman Linge Ndabambi were moved to a place of safety after they were attacked by violent protesters at Wesselton, outside Ermelo on Tuesday.
“They have been moved to a place of safety. The journalist was not injured and cameraman was being medically assessed on the scene,” said etv spokesman Vasili Vas.
He said a satellite van and equipment were damaged during the attack.
Live television footage on the enews channel showed a group stoning a police vehicle, which sped away, and then rushing toward the cameraman and journalist, who sought cover in their van.
The cameraman's hand was bleeding and the vehicles windows were damaged.
Journalist Jody Jacobs told viewers that their laptops were also damaged.
Police were shown firing rubber bullets at the protesters and later, firing on them with handguns.
Earlier, Mpumalanga police spokesman Captain Leonard Hlathi said the protests, believed to be over service delivery issues, entered a second day on Tuesday.
He could not confirm reports in Beeld newspaper that the protests were related to the community being unhappy about the African National Congress' candidate lists for the local government elections.
He said 33 people would appear in the Ermelo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after they were arrested on Monday for public violence.
Hlathi said protesters barricaded roads by using burning tyres and stones on Monday.
