Right-winger Willem Ratte was expected to appear in the Witbank Magistrate's Court on Monday as his hunger strike entered its 25th day.

“He is appearing again in court, but he is still refusing to apply for bail,” his spokesman Edwin Clarke told Sapa.

“He is very weak but he can still stand and his mind is strong.”

Ratte and nine other people were arrested during a police raid on his farm in Balmoral, Mpumalanga in September.

Most of those arrested with him had since been released on bail. The group faces preliminary charges related to the possession of dagga and unlicensed firearms. But Clarke said their arrest was part of a witch hunt against the former soldier.

“He has done nothing wrong. We are hoping that today (Monday) the magistrate would order an investigation into his arrest.” - Sapa
