Nelspruit - Residents of Kriel, Mpumalanga, will be without water from Monday until March 9 because a railway line is being built to the Majuba power station, the water and sanitation department said.

Residents of Thubelihle would also be affected, according to the Emalahleni local municipality's website.

Eskom was building a railway line between Ermelo and the Majuba power station. The line would intersect a water pipe between the Rietspruit reservoir and Davel.

Spokesman Sputnik Ratau said this meant the pipeline would need to be closed at that point and re-routed. The work would also allow for maintenance to be performed on the pipeline.

The municipality would advise those affected where they could collect water from tankers.
