Mpumalanga -

Lightning struck and killed 29 head of cattle on the farm Booyzynkraal between Groblersdal and eMalahleni (Witbank) in Mpumalanga, according to a report on Wednesday.

Farm owner Titia van Deventer said farm workers noticed after a violent storm that many of the farm's Bonsmara cattle were missing.

“We found 29 carcasses on top of a mountain,” Van Deventer told Beeld.

“They were all grouped around two trees… it was a very sad thing to see. I feel I should tell people about this, because you don't realise how dangerous lightning can be.”

The incident happened last week, just a day after nine first team cricket players from King Edward VII High School in Johannesburg were struck by lightning.

Last Monday, lighting also struck four 16-year-old girls from the Protea Glen Secondary School in Soweto while they were walking home from school. One of the girls died. - Sapa
