Water in Thaba Chweu in Mpumalanga is safe for drinking despite the municipality failing to achieve Blue Drop status, said an independent analyst on Wednesday.

“I see no reason that can make people panic,” said Mbolamed Laboratory and Medical Services owner Victor Mashego.

“I would like to take this opportunity to tell the people that their lives are not in danger, as the media and the report cited last week.”

Municipal spokesman Themba Sibiya agreed.

“The water is drinkable and there is no need to panic,” he said. - Sapa
