Secunda - One man died and four others injured on Wednesday following a two-car collision on the Emba Road in Secunda, Mpumalanga, emergency services ER24 said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with other services, were called to the scene to find both vehicles lying in the middle of the road.

“On assessment, paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying trapped inside one of the [vehicles],” said Meiring.

“The man lay pinned from his waist down and showed no signs of life.”

Meiring said the man had already succumbed to his injuries and that paramedics could not do anything for him. The man was declared dead on scene.

Four others were found injured on the scene with two of them trapped under one of the vehicles.

“Rescue personnel had to used specialised rescue equipment to free the patients from the vehicle,” said Meiring.

“Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support intervention.”

The two patients were then transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care and both remained in a critical condition.

“The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” said Meiring.
