Middleburg -

Mpumalanga police said they were investigating an alleged road rage incident that left more than 10 people injured in Middelburg on Saturday afternoon.

“I am told that seven are serious,” Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.

He said those injured were being treated at a Middelburg hospital but the exact number of people was still unclear.

The attack happened after a minibus taxi allegedly drove negligently.

“The driver - of another car - allegedly swerved in front of the taxi barricading it not to move further.”

Hlathi said the two drivers got out and started to argue. The driver of the car phoned for assistance.

“When his backup arrived there was a fight that broke out between the group and the passengers in the taxi.”

He said the passengers in the taxi were assaulted and a paintball gun was also allegedly fired.

Hlathi said no one was arrested but charges of common assault and assault with the intention to cause serious bodily harm were laid.

He said because there was a group involved the incident would have to be investigated before police could look into possible arrests.

“We will have to investigate. The investigation will tell.” - Sapa
