Nelspruit - Two motorists were killed during a head-on collision between a bakkie and a sedan vehicle on the R29 near Leandra in Mpumalanga, ER24 said on Friday.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found both vehicles sitting in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a serious amount of damage, most of the car parts were spread across the roadside,” the ambulance service said in a statement.

The female drivers of both vehicles had died and were trapped inside their vehicles.

Two more passengers – one from each vehicle – were also trapped.

“Rescue services had to use the jaws of life to free both patients before they could be treated,” ER24 said.

Paramedics treated both critically injured women before transporting them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
