Harare - Zimbabwe's first female vice president, Joyce Mujuru, has caused a stir by getting a university degree after her studies had been interrupted for almost 30 years due to the war for independence, reports said Sunday.
Mujuru, 50, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Management and Entrepreneurial Studies from Zimbabwe's recently-established Women's University, according to the state-run Sunday Mail.
The paper published more than four pages of messages congratulating Mujuru from businesses, state-run enterprises, banks and the Zimbabwe parliament.
"Amai (Mother) Mujuru has become a living testimony that education, the biggest asset in building wisdom, is the result of hard work, energy and tireless education," the Sunday Mail commented.
Mujuru dropped out of school during Zimbabwe's fight for independence in the 1970s. She "was barely literate when she stepped out of the bush into a free Zimbabwe", the report said.
