Black widow Najwa Petersen allegedly paid big bucks to have fraud charges against her dropped.

Sources claim the murderess paid roughly R100 000 to an insurance company after she was hit with the charges relating to claims she made after having her husband executed.

Najwa, 49, wasn't present at the Wynberg Magistrates' Court last Monday when Prosecutor Charleen Olivier told the court that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions instructed her to withdraw the charges.

The reason wasn't revealed in court but the Daily Voice discovered Najwa - currently serving 28 years of murder - allegedly had to cough up to ensure she didn't land in more legal hot water.

The charges relate to a R35 000 claim she made after murdering her music legend husband Taliep Petersen on December 16, 2006.

The list of stolen items included Raymond Weil watches valued at R12 000, jewellery, cameras and a bank bag containing R40 000 to R50 000 cash.

But Najwa, who once ran her family's fruit and veg empire, had to pay back much more.

"It was more than the initial amount. It was quite close to R100 000 and it included the initial amount plus the costs of investigating the whole thing," the source said. - Daily Voice
