Johannesburg - New guidelines aimed at improving the quality of reconstruction and development programme (RDP) houses in the Eastern Cape have been approved, the province's human settlements department said on Monday.
Spokesman Lwandile Sicwetsha said the new guidelines provided for the plastering of internal and external walls, running water inside the house, an inside bathroom as well as a solar geyser.
They also provided floor tiling, a ceiling and the fencing of the yard.
“The normal houses don't have these provisions,” said Sicwetsha in a statement.
The province was aiming to build 1000 houses by the end of the year. - Sapa
