It had seemed - to some - to be the ideal opportunity to unmask mysterious kwaito star Mzekezeke.

When The Star reported that Sibusiso Leope, thought to be Mzekezeke, was to appear in the Randburg magistrate's court on Monday in connection with an alleged racially triggered road-rage row in Sandton, security officers at the court were intent on unmasking him.

An officer at the entrance to the court said he would not let Mzekezeke enter the court with his mask on.

"He will have to take it off and then we will finally know," the officer said.

But there was no sign of Mzekezeke - only SABC presenter and 28-year-old YFM DJ Sibusiso Leope turned up.

Leope and his 23-year-old Soweto friend, Gcina Mthimkhulu, were arrested on Friday after a dispute with a woman in Sandton.

The two spent several hours at the Morningside police station before they were released on warning.

Although provisional charges of reckless driving and malicious damage to property were laid against them on Monday, they were not officially charged in court.

The matter has been referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for a decision on whether they should be prosecuted.

The case was postponed to August 30 and they were both warned to appear in court.

When a woman in the parking area of the court saw Leope and Mthimkhulu chatting to friends outside the court, she shouted in isiZulu: "Who is that walking like Mzekezeke?"

"This is not Mzekezeke," a member of Leope's entourage replied.

But the security officer at the entrance of the court was the most disappointed of all, having missed out on the opportunity of unmasking Mzekezeke.
