1 MTN worker dead, 13 hurt in crash

Rustenburg – A man died and 13 others believed to be employees of mobile cellphone company MTN were critically injured when their minibus overturned near Zeerust on Thursday, the North West Community Safety and Transport Management said.

Provincial departmental spokesperson, Shuping Daddy Sebolecwe, said the employees were travelling in an MTN Quantum minibus from Khunotswane village near Zeerust to Mahikeng, when they crashed.

The employees had earlier distributed sim cards in Khunotswane village to potential customers.

“On their way back the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled on the gravel road. Unfortunately one male passenger died on the scene while the driver and other passengers where admitted at Bophelong Hospital [in Mahikeng],” said Sebolecwe.

Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Dr Mpho Motlhabane said: “We send our heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, losing a family member is never easy, we would like to wish the other victims to get well soon and all are in our prayers”.
