A 10-month-old baby drowned in a basin in Biesiesvlei, North West police said on Friday.

Sergeant Philani Nkwalase said the family was watching television on Tuesday, when they noticed that the baby was no longer playing in the living room.

“The mother of the child took a bath in a basin on one of the bedroom floors before joining everyone. When she finished bathing she simply mopped the... floor and left water in the basin,” said Nkwalase.

“The baby girl was found hanging with her feet in the basin with water the mother left. The child was rushed to the hospital with a private vehicle.”
