Johannesburg - The Emfuleni municipality is investigating how three people were buried on top of each other in one grave at the Evaton Cemetery in the Vaal, the Daily Sun reported.

Municipal spokesman Klaas Mofomme told the newspaper it would look into how the three were buried in the same grave without the first person's family having asked for a reburial.

Sebokeng resident Loni Xosho said 13 years ago she discovered that a woman unrelated to her family had been buried on top of her father.

“This happened in 2000 and they have since buried the woman's daughter on top of my father,” she told the newspaper.

She said the Evaton Cemetery offices had showed her a document which recorded that three people had been buried in the grave. She had been trying to get an explanation from the municipality for the past 10 years.

“They keep telling me the people who worked at the cemetery at the time of those three burials have died,” said Xosho. - Sapa
