A man was killed when a helicopter crashed near the Sun City resort in the North West on Tuesday, police said.

“A 32-year-old man was flying a Robinson 22 helicopter from Wonderboom to Bakubunt when he hit a slip cable in a no-fly zone, causing the helicopter to crash,” said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

Ngubane said the crash took place around 9am near Sun City.

The pilot, who was reportedly on his way to pick up friends, was the only occupant.

He was declared dead on the scene. - Sapa
