Johannesburg - A motorist died and two people were rescued in extensive flooding in Mogwase, North West, the provincial government said on Friday.

“Poor visibility as a result of heavy rains is suspected to have caused the crash that occurred on Thursday afternoon on the Mogwase-Sun City road,” spokesman Lesiba Kgwele said.

Kgwele could not confirm whether the motorist was a man or a woman.

Two other motorists were rescued by the SA Police Service's diving team at around 5.45am on Friday on the Mogwase-Northam road.

Their cars were swept away by floods on Thursday evening.

Kgwele said an impact assessment would be conducted on Friday to determine the extent of damage caused by the floods.

Meanwhile, the search continues for the two children reported missing after they were swept away by floods in Mogwase township on Thursday afternoon. - Sapa
