North West - A sixth person has died as a result of a weekend crash near Zeerust, the North West public safety department said on Monday.

Spokesman Lesolang Simon Mmope said two cars collided head-on around 6pm on Sunday.

Five men travelling in a Toyota Corolla died on the scene. Three women in the other car, a Nissan, were seriously injured and taken to hospital. One of them died on Monday morning, Mmope said.

He said speed appeared to have played a role in the accident. - Sapa
