Peters shocked by fatal collision

Johannesburg - Transport Minister Dipuo Peters expressed shock after five people died in a car crash in Lichtenburg in North West on Monday.

“Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has received with shock and sadness news of the crash that occurred on the R503 between Lichtenburg and Mafikeng in the North West province this afternoon,” said spokesman Jomo Khasu in a statement.

He said reports indicated that two sedan-type vehicles collided head-on at around 2pm on Monday afternoon, killing all occupants of both vehicles.

One person died in one vehicle and four people died in the other vehicle.

“Our deep heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased and we wish them all the strength and comfort during this tragic period and their moment of grief,” said Peters. - Sapa
