Durban - Two people were killed and two critically injured in a head-on collision on the N12 near Potchefstroom on Tuesday morning.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha that two people in a VW Polo were killed, while local firemen were forced to use the jaws of life to extract the two occupants of the other vehicle.
They injured were stabilised before being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Botha said it was not clear what caused the two vehicles to collide about 15 kilometres from Potchefstroom and police were investigating.
He said the crash wreckage was spread over a large area.
