Rustenburg – Two people died when their car collided with a truck along the N18 between Podimoe and Taung on Thursday, North West Community Safety and Transport Management said on Thursday.

“It is reported that the two deceased, a male driver and female passenger, were driving from the direction of Taung towards Podimoe and the truck was driving the opposite direction when the car allegedly hit the front tyre of the truck and capsized under the truck,” departmental spokesman Shuping Daddy Sebolecwe said in a statement.

He said their bodies were removed from the wreckage using the jaws of lives.

A minibus taxi that was driving behind the truck also hit the truck from behind, but the passengers survived with minor injuries. They were rushed to hospital for shock treatment.

It was suspected that the rainy weather conditions might have contributed to the cause of the accident.

A case of culpable homicide has been registered at the nearest police station and investigations were underway.

Motorists driving along the N18, especially between Vryburg and Hartswater, were advised to drive with caution following the rainy weather conditions and further to keep a large enough following distance.
