A man was killed and five others were injured when a bakkie overturned on the Olifantshoek road near Kathu, 50km from Kuruman in the Northern Cape, said paramedics on Friday.

“The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage, but a Corsa bakkie with six occupants was travelling on the road when it allegedly veered out of control and overturned into the veld,” said ER24 spokesman Andre Visser.

The accident took place around 7pm on Thursday.

The man was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. Another man was seriously injured and treated at the scene before being transported to hospital by local emergency services.

Visser said the four other passengers received treatment before being taken to Kathu hospital.
