Lohatlha - Hundreds of soldiers from numerous African countries were singing and dancing together at the South African Army Combat Training Centre in Lohatlha, Northern Cape on Monday.

They were joined by members of the SA Police Service in the jovial, informal festivities before the official kick-start of the African Union’s AMANI AFRICA II Field Training Exercise (AAII FTX).

The soldiers, from several countries, including Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia sang in different languages whilst their counterparts from Zimbabwe looked on.

The AAII FTX, which began on Monday, will run until November 7. The exercise includes African armies, police and civilian components of the countries’ defence.

At least 5 400 personnel are set to take part.

Numerous heavy military trucks from different African countries were parked at Lohatlha.
