Bloemfontein - A shutdown of water for Kimberley was being planned for next week, the Sol Plaatje municipality said on Tuesday.

Spokesman Sello Matsie said the cutting of water supply to residences and businesses would take place on Monday next week (Heritage Day).

“This is the second part of our programme for the replacement of existing valves, to enable the isolation of separate reservoirs in the complex,” he said.

About a month ago, the municipality shut down its entire water system for municipal and private contractors to replace major water valves at the Newton reservoir complex.

Seven more valves would be replaced during repairs on Monday.

Matsie said the public was notified in advance, in order to make the necessary arrangements to collect water for food and other needs. - Sapa
