Paralympics champion Oscar Pistorius did not appear in the Pretoria District Court on Wednesday as expected, after the case was not placed on the court roll.

The 22-year-old athlete was earlier warned to be at court on Wednesday, after he was arrested on a charge of assault and later released on a warning.

However, it is understood that after a senior prosecutor perused the docket against the "Blade Runner" on Tuesday afternoon, it was realised that some investigations still needed to be carried out before a decision to prosecute or not could be made.

The district court prosecutor was therefore informed not to put the case on the roll for on Wednesday.

As soon as all the information and statements needed are obtained, the docket will be taken back to court where the State will then decide if they are going to prosecute Pistorius or not.

It is believed that police already went to the runner's home in Silver Lakes as part of further investigations.

Pistorius spent the past Saturday night in a Boschkop police cell after 19-year-old Cassidy Taylor-Memmory apparently accused him of assaulting her.

Police spokesperson Marinda Stoltz earlier said Pistorius was hosting a party at his home for a small group of friends on Saturday afternoon. It was alleged that the young woman got involved in an argument with her boyfriend and that Pistorius instructed them to go outside.

According to police the complainant then started fighting with Pistorius's girlfriend. He again asked the woman to leave.

That was when she allegedly kicked the door. When Pistorius closed the door, one of the panels apparently fell on her leg and she was bruised.

Taylor-Memmory and her family on Wednesday said they had appointed a lawyer to protect the interest of the complainant and her family. It stated that she would give her version of events to a court if necessary.
