Gauteng police have seized hashish worth an estimated R202 million on the street from a self-storage facility in Zesfontein, near Benoni.

Superintendent Eugene Opperman, a police spokesman, said the drugs had been found in an anti-crime operation by the North Rand organised crime unit on October 20.

The police had left the consignment there and kept the facility under surveillance, hoping that the drug dealers would return.

They had seized the drugs on Monday after it had became clear that nobody was going to collect them.

"It looks as if the shipment came from Afghanistan," said Opperman. "There were 2 244 compressed bricks of about 1kg each." - Sapa
