The situation is still tense at Boitumelong township, outside Bloemhof, North West, following community protest against poor service delivery, SABC news reported.

On Saturday afternoon the community had barricaded the main entrance into the township when the mayor of Lekwa-Teemane Local Authority, Lydia Modise was expected to address locals.

SABC news also reported that Modise's husband attacked their camera man when he tried to interview the mayor while she was leaving the police station.

On Friday night, three people were arrested for public violence after stones were thrown at police vehicles. Several shops belonging to foreigners were also looted during the protest. - Sapa
