Nineteen people died in the Faure accident involving a train and a truck full of farmworkers, not 20 as previously reported, Western

Cape police said on Wednesday.

Superintendent Billy Jones said 11 males and eight females died in the accident. Police had been wrongly informed on Tuesday that a 20th victim had died.

"All 19 deceased have been formally identified by their respective relatives over past two days at the Tygerberg state mortuary," said Jones.

"A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

The investigation continues." - Sapa
