Cape Town - AgangSA leader Mamphela Ramphele on Wednesday complained that her party’s posters had been taken down in certain areas in DA-controlled Cape Town, and her party was also struggling to secure permission to use community halls for meetings across the Western Cape.
“We cannot say who is taking our posters down… but someone is certainly worried about the impact we are having in the Western Cape,” she said.
Agang was taking “measures to trap these culprits” and would alert the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the police, she said.
Specifically identified were areas on the Cape Flats, including Grassy Park, Lotus River, Lavender Hill and Parkwood.
However, Agang said its posters were also being removed, albeit on a lesser scale, in Kempton Park and Sandton in Gauteng and in the Eastern Cape.
“The fact that these actions have occurred over the past week in three different provinces with essentially the same voter demographics in each could suggest a co-ordinated action by one party,” said Ramphele.
Ramphele and DA leader Helen Zille fell out earlier this year when just a few days after Ramphele agreed to stand on a DA ticket as its presidential candidate, she withdrew.
