Cape Town - Management at Cape Town University of Technology (CPUT) on Thursday morning agreed that 12 students who were arrested during violent protests may attend its general meeting, being hosted at the Cape Town campus.

The assembly was called after recent protest action escalated and forced the institution to suspend its classes and operations.

It is being attended by the university’s executive body, student leaders, workers and parents.

The 12 students were released on bail, and conditions attached mean they are not allowed within 200m of a learning institution.

University management arranged for the students to be fetched, so they can attend the assembly.

On the assembly’s agenda is the scrapping of fees, and dropping of charges against the students.
