Cape Town - A child was killed when he was hit by a truck on Old Sir Lowrys Pass east of Cape Town on Saturday afternoon, paramedics said.
ER24 paramedics, along with the local authorities, arrived on the scene and found the truck parked in the middle of the road.
The driver of the truck was found walking around on the scene, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.
“On further assessment, paramedics found the body of the little boy lying motionless underneath the truck. Unfortunately, the child had already succumbed to his multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead on [the] scene.”
Witnesses on the scene stated that the child had apparently run across the road without noticing the oncoming truck.
Traffic was heavily affected due to to the accident. The authorities would investigate the accident, Meiring said.
