Cape Town - Cape Town is bracing for a weekend of heavy rain, floods and gale force winds with a storm set to sweep through the Cape.

The South African Weather Office said flooding was expected in the southern parts of the West Coast District, Cape Metro and western parts of the Capelands and Overberg District on Thursday night.

There is a small chance of light snow on Table Mountain this weekend, according to Snow Report.

Snow has also been forecast for the western high ground of the Western Cape and the southern high ground of the Northern Cape tomorrow afternoon through to Saturday.

City disaster management spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said the cold front would move through slowly, with heavy rain expected until at least Sunday.

“We are expecting localised flooding and flash flooding, so we can anticipate roads being flooded in the informal settlements,” he said.

Teams were on standby to tackle the problem areas as soon as the storm began.
