Cape Town - Living peacefully is the theme of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates taking place in Cape Town in October, mayor Patricia de Lille said on Friday.

She said the theme, “Peace. Living it”, and the summit were to commemorate the life of former president Nelson Mandela and his work as a global peace icon.

“We often forget that to the rest of the world, that peaceful transition is seen as a miracle and that it remains a great source of inspiration to other nations,” she said.

De Lille was joined on stage by Nobel Peace Prize winners and summit hosts, former president FW de Klerk and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

Nobel Peace Prize laureates, delegates and organisations such as the European Union and United Nations, are to gather in Cape Town from October 13 to October 15.

The summit's permanent secretariat president, Ekaterina

Zagladina, announced that the title of “Peace City of 2014” was being bestowed on Cape Town.
