A train en-route to Malmesbury from Cape Town collided with a stationary goods train near Fisantekraal, Durbanville, on Tuesday afternoon, Cape Town's disaster management centre said.

“From preliminary reports it appears that the train was carrying 300 passengers, and at this stage it is unclear how many people sustained injuries,” the centre said in a statement.

The collision happened around 5.15pm. Disaster and emergency personnel were sent to the scene. - Sapa
