Child killed while crossing Cape highway

Cape Town - A 10-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday morning after he was hit by a vehicle on the N1 highway, just 5km outside of Worcester in the Western Cape, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

Meiring said the the boy was trying to cross the busy road when he was hit by the vehicle.

When ER24 paramedics and other emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the boy’s body lying on an embankment next to the road.

“Family members and friends that had been walking with the boy were found kneeling around his body,” Meiring said.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that the child had sustained numerous injuries to his head, chest and abdomen.”

Meiring said child was already dead when emergency services arrived on scene.

“Nothing more could be done for the patient and was declared dead on the scene,” Meiring said.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
