Cape Town - A children's birthday party in Delft turned to trauma after six children were hit by an alleged drunk driver while playing on a jumping castle.

According to a report from ER24 paramedics, two cars collided in Eindhoven Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Of the eight injured, six were children believed to be between the ages of three and seven. Two of the injured were adults.

Delft resident and the grandmother of two of the injured children, Annie Samuels, explains the family of a three-year-old girl was hosting a birthday party and erected a jumping castle in the front yard.

She says two vehicles were driving past and the driver of a white bakkie was allegedly drunk and driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit an oncoming vehicle.

The bakkie then swerved into the jumping castle.

Daily Voice visited the home where the party was held, but were informed that all the parents and their children were at the hospital following the incident.

(I came home early and then it happened. All the children were hurt. I could not go look, it was too sad. All the parents are at the hospital, you won't see them now. )

The driver of the bakkie reportedly drove off after the accident and residents say they spotted beer bottles in his vehicle.

Police spokesperson, Sinathi Joni, confirms the incident and says six children between the ages of three and 15 were injured.

“According to information, the vehicle smashed into the jumping castle after it had collided with another private vehicle on Eindhoven Road in Delft. No arrests have been made at this stage,” she says.
