Technical issues with landing gear caused an Emirates passenger plane to make an emergency landing at Cape Town International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, the airline said.

Emirates regional manager for Southern Africa Fouad Caunhye said Emirates flight EK773, which departed Cape Town for Dubai at 1:55pm returned to Cape Town at 3:20pm after a technical problem developed with the aircraft's landing gear.

“At no point was the safety of the 243 passengers or crew at risk,” Caunhye said.

“Passengers are being provided with hotel accommodation until a replacement flight tomorrow afternoon. A spokeswoman for the airport said the landing had no impact on operations at the airport. - Sapa
