Cape Town -

Rescue workers were searching for an 65-year-old man who was swept into False Bay while fishing on Friday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.

The man was fishing with two friends when he washed off rocks south of Monwabisi, near Macassar, NSRI Strandfontein station commander Mario Fredericks said in a statement.

“At this stage there is no sign of the man and an extensive air, sea and shore search is continuing, and a police dive unit has been activated to join in the search,” Fredericks said.

The SA Police Service, Western Cape Emergency Medical Services and Skymed helicopters had also joined in the search. - Sapa
