Cape Town - A fire was extinguished at the SABC building in Sea Point on Friday morning, the City of Cape Town's fire services said.

Smoke was seen coming from the third floor of the building on Beach Road around 6am, said fire services spokesman Toivo Ngqwebo.

Two fire engines and a rescue vehicle were sent out and firemen found the fire in an office on the same level as the newsroom.

Twelve firefighters used the building's internal hose reels to put out the fire. The office was moderately damaged by fire, smoke, and water.

Ngqwebo said no injuries were reported and the scene had been handed over to the police for further investigation.

It was not clear how the fire started.
