Firefighters battle Glencairn blaze

Cape Town - A fire was raging on the mountain above Glencairn Heights in Cape Town on Wednesday, the city's fire and rescue services said.

Spokeswoman Sharon Bosch said the fire, which started around 11am, had destroyed extensive vegetation but no properties were in danger.

Three fire engines, two helicopters and 25 ground crew were in the process of extinguishing the fire, she said.

According to the SA Weather Service website, veld fire warnings had been issued for the western parts of the Northern and Western Cape.
